WHAT IS WOOD THERAPY?

Wood therapy is a natural technique of oriental origin, which is used for both aesthetic and health purposes. It consists of performing a vigorous massage using various wooden instruments of different shapes and sizes.

The old technique was reborn in Colombia, where in the 1990s utensils and techniques were developed to achieve the best results, especially in the field of body aesthetics.

The devices have ergonomic shapes, designed to adapt to different parts of the body, and each has its own specific functions and goals. Depending on the area, rollers can also be used in different ways, in addition there are also smaller tools for the face.

The anatomically designed wooden tools used in this type of massage are ideal for redefining body contour, reducing cellulite and facilitating weight loss.

HOW ARE MASSAGES WITH WOOD THERAPY?

This therapy uses wooden instruments to apply series of repetitive movements with specific pressure on different parts of the body. This pressure favors the elimination of fluid and the reduction of fatty tissue and toxins that it may contain through the lymphatic system.

It is, therefore, a therapy that contributes to the detoxification of the body.

The most common indication is cellulite, as it favors the reduction of disproportionate lumps and softens dimples in orange peel.

To perform the massage there are a variety of utensils. Some well-known therapists even design their own. However, the most used are the following:

Smooth roller. It serves to knead the legs and buttocks. There are different models that adapt to the type of skin and problem presented by the patient It serves to activate the circulatory and lymphatic system, and facilitates the elimination of adipocytes. There are different types of rollers, which are chosen depending on how the patient’s skin is and the adiposity that it presents.
Swedish Cup. It is used to treat localized adiposity and model areas such as the waist, buttocks, thighs or abdomen.
Modeling table. It helps drain fat and promotes the elimination of toxins. It is used to model the most delicate areas of the patient’s skin.

TYPES OF WOOD THERAPY

Depending on the area and the objectives to be achieved, there are different types of massage in wood therapy:

MADEROTERAPIA FACIAL

The main function of this massage is to tighten the skin, while improving blood circulation. It is a gentle and cosmetic treatment.

MADEROTERAPIA CORPORAL

  • Lymphatic drainage massage. It is used after severe injury or surgery to reduce symptoms such as swelling and pain. It stimulates the flow of fluid in the lymph nodes and releases accumulations. This type of massage should be carried out by a physiotherapist with specific training.
  • Deep tissue massage. This therapy is a massage technique that uses slow, powerful movements to reach the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. This type of technique can be intense because of the pressure that is applied, but the treatment is very effective. It should also be performed by qualified healthcare professionals.
  • Breast massage. This gentler technique is mainly performed to shape the breasts, as well as firming and toning.
  • Anti-cellulite massage. This type of technique is applied to eliminate fat and fluid accumulated in different areas of the body. By activating blood circulation in the treated parts, it promotes elimination. It is a natural, non-invasive treatment that provides results in a short time. Sessions usually last one hour.

MADEROTERAPIA: BENEFITS OF THIS TREATMENT

Wood therapy is not a relaxation technique. Itis a physical treatment of more or less profound action, depending on the technique and indication, which aims to increase general well-being, reaffirm the contours and say goodbye to excess fat.

1. DECREASES CELLULITE AND FLUID RETENTION

The wooden roller stimulates the body’s lymphatic system and reduces fluid retention accumulated in the tissues as a result of hormonal fluctuations, little exercise or impaired lymphatic flow.

After a few sessions of wood therapy, the contours of thighs and buttocks appear smoother and the appearance of orange peel can be significantly reduced.

Massage can also help stretch and lengthen skin tissue, which can also make the skin look smoother and smoother.

2. DETOXIFYING EFFECT

You can imagine the lymphatic system that runs parallel to the venous system as a sewer network that collects pollutants and waste. Massage with wooden devices can act on this system, activating it, which favors the body’s natural detoxification processes.

This generates well-being and strengthens the immune system, of which the lymphatic system is a part.

3. SMOOTH AND ROSY SKIN

The therapy increases the body’s own production of collagen and elastin. This naturally tightens the skin of the arms, stomach or legs and prevents the appearance of new cellulite.

In addition, intensive pressure stimulates blood circulation, ensuring a healthy, radiant complexion and firm skin on legs and buttocks.

4. RELIEVES MUSCLE TENSION

In addition to its aesthetic uses, wood therapy is very useful to relieve muscle tension, contractures and muscle or joint pain.

Regardless of whether you are a very active, athletic or sedentary person, wood therapy can also be very effective and beneficial. In addition, it promotes muscle relaxation and relieves tension and stress, favoring better rest and sleep.

MADEROTERAPIA: BEFORE AND AFTER (HOW LONG IT LASTS)

Madero therapy is most effective if the treatment is periodic and regular, similar to traditional therapeutic massage. Up to three weekly one-hour sessions for three or four months may be recommended to appreciate the effects.

The more consistent the treatment, the more noticeable and long-lasting the effects. However, the results you experience will continue for about three months after the last session.

SESSION OF MADEROTERAPIA AT HOME

It is possible to do a simple self-treatment of wood therapy at home. You only need the right wooden elements and ten to 15 minutes of your time. How it works step by step:

  1. First, rub the area of skin you want to massage with some anti-cellulite oil from coconut, pomegranate or birch, for example.
  2. Take a wooden roller, place it on the affected area and twist or rub it several times on the part of the body you want with gentle pressure.
  3. You can work with a single roller or alternate them at will in different parts of the body. It is essential to work in the direction of lymphatic flow, therefore, rocking movements are always performed from the bottom up (in the direction of the upper body, to the heart).
  4. To increase the firming anti-cellulite effect, an alternating shower is also recommended after treatment. It also stimulates metabolism and blood circulation and ensures great results.

MADEROTERAPIA: CONTRAINDICATIONS

Maderoterapia is a completely natural and safe massage treatment if pressures are not performed with excess force. However, it may be contraindicated if you suffer from any health problems. In that case, consult your doctor first. For example, wood therapy and massage in general may be contraindicated in some types of cancer and some circulatory diseases.
